2012: Shift Your Consciousness or Get Run Over!

Go to Amazon.com and type 2012 in the search field. Up comes a multitude of books (and a movie) centered on the idea that something colossal is going to happen on December 21, 2012.

This has been a topic of discussion in the metaphysical/New Age community for the last fifteen years or so. The clue that the topic has gone mainstream is there is even a book on the list called The Complete Idiot’s Guide to 2012! That’s about as mainstream as it gets!  (For those of you who haven’t yet encountered dialogue about the coming world changes as predicted by the ending of the Mayan calendar, just Google 2012 and check out the links.)

The new movie 2012: Science or Superstition presents the opposing opinions of enthusiasts in two camps: those forecasting apocalypse–the end of time–and those who see a coming renewal, a rebirth of consciousness. A heaven on earth.

There is plenty of science to support the claim that big changes are likely, but in all the discussion there is no definitive evidence of exactly what will happen, or if it will be a gradual process or a “big bang” sort of event.

So when I received an email from James Redfield, author of The Celestine Prophecy titled 2012: The Energetic Countdown is Happening Now, I took time out to read it.

The message contained an article by Carl Johan Calleman, a Mayan calendar expert. It was a very thorough and provocative article laying out the big shifts likely to occur leading up to December 21, 2012, with the most intensity happening on October 28, 2011.

Interestingly, the beginning of what Calleman calls the Sixth Night began this past Sunday, November 8, 2009, the date our Trapped in the Past workshop took place. No wonder many of the participants experienced major shifts in consciousness!

With so much speculation and opposing viewpoints on exactly what is going to happen, there is really no way to prove one way or the other what we can expect. However, I think we can all agree that locally and globally there are many changes afoot. Along with that is a disappearance of any sense of stability and certainty, and an increase in feelings of fear and anxiety. These are perfectly normal human responses to change. They are there to give us a “heads up” that we need to pay attention and be prepared to make some conscious choices.

The dilemma arises when clear choices are not evident, and we risk getting stuck in the fear and anxiety. Did you know that when you get afraid the blood leaves your forebrain (your thinking brain), and your digestion, and your immune system and rushes to your muscles so you can run like hell?

The fact is, when you are in fear, you cannot think clearly.

The antidote to fear is faith. When you absolutely know that you are always guided as to what to do moment-by-moment, you will remember to take your focus off the future and stay completely present in the Now. From that space you will find yourself guided to be in the right place at the right time.

And that is the spiritual growth journey . . . to develop your consciousness and your trust to hear and follow guidance, and to develop the ability to “surf the chaos and navigate the flow” of life.

Just like the sailor must develop “sea legs” when onboard a ship in order to move about comfortably, we must develop our ability to surf the chaos and navigate the flow of this transition from the old paradigm of accommodating outside authority, to the new paradigm of liberation and freedom to live On Purpose as our Authentic Selves.

Foundational to navigating these changes is accepting that we are leaving behind life as we have known it, and emerging into a new way of being. We are not going to emerge from the current global chaos and return to “the way it was before the economic crises.” I’m tellin’ you, it ain’t gonna happen! The people who will do well in this transition are those who turn the fear of loss into the excitement of creating anew.

Although it feels scary, not knowing what’s coming next, there is a delightful antidote to this fear, and that is to shift your consciousness from being outer-directed (looking to outside authorities to tell you what to do, how to think and how to behave) to being inner-directed (listening to your heart and soul, your own inner wisdom for direction). That is where your safety and security reside.

Located deep inside of you is your own inner wisdom in the form of a compass that let’s you know when you are on track or off track. It got buried long ago in order to fit in and get along. Now is the time to resurrect it!

And you do that . . .

. . . by setting your intention to pay attention to your heart’s desire and your soul’s call

. . . by a bloodless coup on the Dictatorship of your logical/rational mind and co-opting it into becoming a co-creator with your Heart and Soul.

Whew! Does that sound like work? Well, it is . . . and the reward is experiencing more Joy and less struggle in your daily life! And, hey, who wouldn’t want that!?

BOTTOM LINE: To comfortably make the shift into the new paradigm requires letting go of any idea that life is happening to you. Coming to terms with the concept that you are a powerful being co-creating your life out of the unmanifest potential that is the substance of the Universe moves you out of the victim role into the driver’s seat of your life.

It is your thoughts and feelings that turn the energy of unmanifest potential into material reality. Given that 90% (or more) of your thoughts are unconscious, the real work is in becoming conscious, and from that springs the ability to take charge of your thoughts and feelings.

TIPS: Get acquainted with yourself. Set aside time to spend any way you want. What brings you Joy? What leaves you feeling drained? What do you most like about yourself? Be as interested in yourself as you would be in someone you wanted to develop a friendship with. Isn’t it time you gave yourself the love and attention you would give to your best friend?

P.S. The greatest gift you give to your family, friends, the world and yourself is to create a life that WORKS! That means a joyful life that is vibrant, alive, and lived to the fullest!

So how is your life being shaken up these days? What spiritual tools are you using (or developing) to expand your consciousness? How willing are you to follow your inner compass that aligns you with your essential self whose very nature is Joy? Journaling? Meditating? Awakening Your Light Body? Yoga? Tai Chi? Reiki? Breathing? Reading inspirational books? Listening to inspirational talks? Attending workshops/seminars?

Send me your comments. I’d love to hear from you!

I’ll “see” you in our next newsletter November 25th.

Love & Light,
Jennifer Grainger
