“I need to be extra alert to be sure I am paying attention to my guidance so I end up in the right place,” said Candace (not her real name). “The downsizing will start next month, and I know that no matter what happens, I’ll be fine. I just want to be sure I don’t overlook an important sign or miss a bit of guidance in the process.”
What started as a get-together after not seeing each other for several years, turned into a spiritual growth opportunity. We were chit-chatting about the various ways we were using our light body skills to “surf the chaos and navigate the flow” of life in this time of rapid change and seemingly constant state of flux.
I’d first met Candace about 10 years ago when she’d been my student in an Awakening Your Light Body class. Unlike me, who had no conscious awareness of my own energy, let alone the environmental energies, or the energy of other people until I awakened my light body, Candace had always been highly aware of subtle energies in and around her to the point of distraction and discomfort.
It was interesting that I learned to sense and harmonize with subtle energies through the Awakening Your Light Body process, while the same process enabled Candace to learn to manage the energies she was already too consciously aware of!
“Instability has become the new normal,” I said. “The only way to be comfortable with it is to stay completely in Present Time. What has worked for me is to just pay attention to what is right in front of me and stay connected to my guidance for what to do next. Whenever I get into struggle or am not sure what to do, I stop, go to my meditation chair, and ‘listen’ until I get a sense of what’s next.”
“I’m sure it helps that you don’t watch TV, or listen to the radio . . . and you get to work at home by yourself,” said Candace “It is really hard to stay centered when I am surrounded by so many fearful people afraid of losing their jobs and their homes.” Glancing around my living room she said, “and you have created such a serene living environment. I feel like I am in another world here. Is it always this quiet?” I smiled. I do love the harmonious atmosphere that I have created for myself.
As our conversation meandered over the different ways we use our light body skills to stay balanced and centered, I mentioned that when I want to “Let Go and Let God” in a particular situation, I take the issue into the 10th light body center. I let it “marinate” in that deep space of infinity (with the help of my guides, of course), while I just hang out in that bliss space of Oneness. When I get that internal “click” that lets me know I’m done, I gather all aspects of the “marinated” issue and translate it back by descending through the light body centers back to ordinary reality. “And from there it just unfolds,” I said. “I don’t have to do a thing.” Needless to say Candace jumped at the chance for me to take her through the process.
“Wow, that was great,” she said. “I can feel I have definitely shifted. I wish you’d recorded it! How long was the meditation?”
I glanced at the clock. “Thirty minutes,” I said, still enjoying the exquisite sense of well-being that clings to me from “journeying.” We talked a bit about her Plan B if she did, in fact, lose her job. “How long can you go without a paycheck?” I asked.
“A couple of months.”
“Hmm. That’s not very long,” I said, then I couldn’t help but chuckle when she said, “Well, we don’t want to dip into our savings.” It was a phrase I’d heard over and over from people in desperate financial situations. Their fear was that they’d use up their savings and then they’d have nothing.
“Do you remember during the dot.com bust and my (then) husband’s business had come to an abrupt halt?” I asked. “I was so worried, and you me asked how long we could manage on the money we’d saved. I’d said I didn’t want to touch our retirement money. And you asked if we did use that money, how long would it last, and I said five years. You said you thought that sometime within the five years we’d figure something out!”
Candace smiled at the memory.
“So,” I said, “if you were to use every last bit of your financial resources, how long could you go without a paycheck?”
“Probably at least two years. Maybe three.” I didn’t need to say that I thought she’d figure something out within two or three years.
“Besides,” I said. “With things changing as rapidly as they are, we might not even have our current financial system in place. Who knows what new ways of circulating goods and services will evolve?”
“That’s right!” she said. “If I lose my job, I’ll have plenty of time to figure out what to do next. Besides with the big changes my company has been making in the last few years I am not sure I even want to stay there. I sure would like to change my daily environment into one that was more in the flow . . . and definitely less hectic!”
As we continued chatting Candace used the phrase “if I lose my job . . .” several times to preface what options she might pursue. Her face lit up when I suggested she change the words to “if a new opportunity opens up for me to use my natural talents to make a great living in an environment that supports me being in the flow . . .”
“You know,” I said, “one hundred years ago 90% of Americans were self-sustaining. They had farms. People lived with extended family. They were in community with their neighbors. Taking charity was a shameful disgrace.” I told her about the book I had just read, Better Off by Eric Brende who lived “off the grid” for 18 months and discovered a simpler lifestyle that he eventually transferred to living in the city. He says when he adds up the actual hours of work he does every day, it is about three or four. The rest of the time he is interacting with his family and community.
“There is a quiet movement afoot to reclaim a simpler life,” I said. “Intentional communities are forming all over the country. The idea that the only way to survive is to work for someone else . . . to have a job . . . is just a belief people have bought in to. I think this evolution we are in will lead many people to recreating their lives to live more in the rhythm and flow of life.
“I’d love to talk about this more” said Candace, “but I’m starving! How about if I buy you dinner as a thank-you for your help today, and you can tell me more about what you’ve been learning about simplifying life.”
Needless to say, that worked for me!
BOTTOM LINE: We are living in the midst of an evolutionary leap for humanity. Every aspect of life as we know it is up for redesign. The old structures must give way for the new to emerge. Developing the spiritual skills of hearing and following guidance and strengthening our sixth sense are fruitful endeavors indeed! True abundance is not having a storehouse of gold, but of having what you need when you need it.
TIP: Reserving time for your spiritual growth is more important than ever. As life continues to speed up your most valuable asset is a strong connection to your inner compass. Think of a pilot who is engulfed in a fog and must fly by relying on instruments rather than landscape. The more you can rely on your own inner wisdom and your sixth sense instead of things outside of yourself, the more likely you will continually find yourself in the right place at the right time having what you need when you need it.
P.S. Hanging around like-minded people who see this as a time of tremendous opportunity rather than disastrous calamity will go a long way to making this transition more joyful with less struggle.
P.P.S. Candace took me to Rosewood in downtown Lodi. I had the most delicious Dover Sole and garlic mashed potatoes ever! Yum Yum!
