"I listened to the first teleclass you did, and even though I can't remember a thing about it, it made a big impact on me and got me thinking," wrote Helen (not her real name).
"I was feeling so scattered, trying to do so many things. That teleclass got me thinking about who I am and what my true calling is . . . not what I think I should be doing, but what I want to be doing . . . my passion."
Helen went on to say, "I found myself getting caught in what other people think I should be doing, and what I think will make the most money. I was forgetting about what I love and what brings me joy."
Helen ended her email with a beautiful insight: "I have noticed that killing myself to make money not only kills me, but I also don't end up with more money. It just makes me less of who I am."
I am so happy for Helen. She has realized a truth that has liberated her from "nose to the grindstone" struggle and freed her to follow her heart and her passion.
I remember the time my first spiritual mentor, Judy Reis, channeled a message for me and her guide told me I should follow my heart. After the channeled reading, when Judy asked me if I had any questions, I asked what it means to follow your heart. When she replied that it meant I should do whatever I wanted, I actually snorted a guffaw at the absurdity of it. My inner programming was very quick to point out how irresponsible and selfish it would be for me to do what I wanted.
Judy assured me that my heart's desires were whispers from my soul and that is would be good to follow my heart. Thank goodness I had enough courage and adventuring spirit to at least consider the idea.
Once I started paying attention to my heart's desires, I had a startling revelation. As soon as an idea popped up of something fun or joyful to do, a voice in my head would immediately give me reasons why it wasn't possible. It's too expensive. You don't have time. It is not practical, blah, blah, blah.
Fortunately by then I was channeling my guide, Gabriel, and getting valuable information and lots of inspiration. One day I "saw" how my heart was like a little child quaking in the corner timidly asking for what she needed. My rational mind was like a harsh and unloving care giver meeting all requests with her fists on her hips and a scowl on her face, while delivering a resounding "NO WAY!"
Fortunately Gabriel showed me how I had let my logical mind become a petty tyrant, and encouraged me to put that tyrant in its place.
I decided to change the balance of power between my mind and my heart. I declared that from then on my heart and my mind would be partners. My heart would be in charge of creating ideas for having a joyful, struggle-free life, and my mind would be in charge of making it happen.
And it did! Wow! Who could know it would be as simple as deciding?
What a breath of fresh air it was the first time my heart came up with an idea for some rest and relaxation and I was able to say "OK, mind. Figure out how to make it happen."
BOTTOM LINE: Your heart holds the key to having more joy and less struggle in your life. By listening to your heart's desires and giving your mind the assignment of finding a way to make it happen, you will begin to notice what doesn't belong in your life anymore. As you let those things go there is more room for what makes your heart sing.
TIP: When you find yourself exhausted, exasperated, depressed, or just plain cranky . . . STOP! Ask yourself "What am I doing and what is my motive for doing it?" When you get the honest answer to those questions, decide if you want to keep doing what you are doing, or if it is time for a change.
P.S. In the early 70s I was a Mary Kay Beauty Consultant. One of Mary Kay's sayings that was a powerful catalyst for change in my life was: "the way things are, are the way things will be, until a change is made."
P.P.S. Another of my mentors, Duane Packer of LuminEssence used to say: "If want something you've never had, you will have to do something you've never done."

Do you have an Aha! Moment you'd like to share? Where are you in creating a heart/mind partnership? It seems to me that it can work both ways. Letting the heart be completely in charge is as limiting as having the mind completely in charge. What do you think?
I
want to hear from you! Tell me about your
latest Aha! moment.
